4. Links to real life and the world of work Students chose their own roles in the play and tasks in the project, teacher only helped when asked being mainly the co-ordinator. Students organised rehearsals and involved parents and sponsors. Group work and active teaching methods were used. Students also worked on Sundays bringing their own lunches and discussing future plans. Each student was responsible for his/her own tasks and also helped others. When one of the actors fell ill right before their visit to the orphanage a replacement was found really fast. In the middle of the project there was a set back – several students were ill, some were not very committed – but together students overcame these problems. Their message was – we can do it, we have done so much already. So, let’s do it! Many practical skills were learnt during this project – sewing, cooking, ironing. laying a table, dealing with money, performing in public, interviewing. Several field trips were made to local businesses in order to find partners for the project. During field trip to Rakvere Theatre students got to know many things about actors job and other jobs that exist there. Meeting with the actress gave them chance to share their own experience. Project involved parents who helped to teach songs, sew costumes, organise cafeteria and who also helped out during the play with costumes and make-up.
Children carried out their idea practically – organised the play, raised money and supported the orphanage. They realised that even thought they are young and lack resources they can still do something. Results of the projects were reflected in two stages – while visiting Rakvere Theatre it was discussed whether or not the project was successful, what did it give to each student personally, what went wrong and what can we learn about it. During gratitude gala the whole project was presented by students. Also each student gave written feedback. . |
