Seeking for abilities to do own things in Riga Secondary School Nr.84
First of all, teachers offered the themes of the different short projects and students could choose what they wanted, what they were interested in. When the groups were completed teachers organised different excursions to the different places. One group went to the bakery, the second – to the shops, the third – to the television studio, the forth – to the shelters, the fifth – to the publishing company, the sixth – to the manufactory, the seventh – to the studio, the eighth – to the puppet theatre, the ninth – to the government- the Saeima, the tenth – to the storehouse. The result of the excursions: students met people who are the professionals at their jobs. They understood what they need to do in the future if they want to get this profession. Students saw how to produce the goods at different work places.
Secondly, teachers made a plan how students should work.
Thirdly, students made their own things by themselves. The first group baked different cakes and cookies. The second group made different cribs, made the advertisement about that and said how much these cost. The third group made a film about their school. The forth group made a big poster as an advertisement what people should do to help abandoned animals, how to gather the donations. The fifth group wrote the reporters and poems and made a newspaper full of their own works. The sixth group (mostly boys) made different tools from wood, and then sold them. The seventh group made different postcards, painted and decorated cups and glasses and vessels and dishes. The eighth group made puppets and dolls from the textile and materials. The ninth group made a presentation about politicians’ work, what students need if they want to make a career of a politician. The tenth group made accessories from different beads like: earrings, rings and so on.
Next step: teachers organised the market where students could sell all their own made things-goods. Some students wanted just show their work but not to sell.
